The Villa is situated in a quiet residential neighborhood of Lemmer on the end of a small peninsula. Hence, there is hardly any traffic…on the road that is. On the water in the summer it’s a different story with lots of swimmers, boats, SUP boards, inflatables and whatever floats passing by.
The quaint historic village center and old harbor is at 2km distance. Here you’ll find everything you need and more. Lots of supermarkets, shops, restaurants and bars. Most of them with nice terraces on the harbor.
The beautiful beach and famous Beachclub on the Ijsselmeer is at the same distance in another direction. With a boat you can go anywhere you want from the house, as there are no bridges or other obstacles. Guaranteed depth is >2m.
Lemmer is also home to the Woudagemaal, the largest steam pumping station in the world and a UNESCO world heritage site.
A unique environment
Next to Lemmer and it’s highlights there are numerous unique places close by. Just to name a few:
Sloten
The smallest city of Friesland. Beautifully conserved as a 17th century village.
Weerribben
The largest low peat bog area in Europe. A beautiful nature park with unique plants and wildlife. Around this park you will find beautiful unique villages like Giethoorn and Blokzijl
Gaasterland
One of the most unique and beautiful nature parks in the Netherlands. With subtle hills, forests and even a natural “cliff” on the Ijsselmeer coast.
Hindeloopen
Next to Sloten the most beautiful of the “Elf Steden”, the eleven cities of Friesland.

There are too many recreational possibilities to mention in the neighborhood. Here are just a few links to enhance your family holiday.
Restaurants
Lemmer has numerous restaurants and bars mostly aimed at tourists. Hence you’ll find a lot of decent restaurants however when real fine dining (Michelin level and up) is your thing, you’ll need to travel a bit outside the village.
De Baai van Lemmer probably the best quality restaurant in Lemmer and a bit outside the center.
Pizzeria La Gondola large Italian restaurant and Pizzeria in the center with a terrace on the harborfront
Brasserie 14 nice brasserie on the sunny side of the harbor with large terrace. Good for a nice lunch, drink or simple dinner.
De Wildeman special mention for this bar/restaurant as it’s in the middle of the center in a beautiful 18th century monument and it supports young people that are learning the restaurant business.
As said for Michelin stars you’ll need to get further afield. Our personal favorite in this category is De Lindenhof (2 stars) in Giethoorn but you will also find De Heeren van Harinxma (1 star) on the Lauswolt estate in Beetsterzwaag and Kaatje bij de sluis (1 star) in Blokzijl.
Boating and Sailing
Lemmer is all about watersports. The Villa is also all about the water. There is a simple inflatable row boat available but we can imagine you want a bit more for some memorable boat trips in this unique area for boating. Some of our Guests bring their own boat, others rent one to their liking (and budget) at one of the numerous boat rental companies in Lemmer. The pontoons around the villa have ample room for 1 or even more boats up to a size of approximately 15 meter.
The closest boat rental (literally around the corner) is Boot&Meer where you can rent different sizes motorized sloops. These are ideal for pleasant daytrips. Another good option is Sloepverhuur – Sporthotel Iselmar, Lemmer
When you’re looking for a more sporty open sailboat or even a full sailing course De Kikkert is close by.
Of course you can also rent larger motor- or sailboats close by at for example De Brekken or Enjoy Sailing but not many Guests are interested in that.
